STEP 2: Understanding the Housing Programs
Bath Housing offers apartments at different rent levels so more people in our community can find a place to call home:
(Subsidized) Rent Based on Your Income
• You pay about 30% of what you earn
• Your rent adjusts if your income changes
• For “very low income” households who need the most support
• Subsidized properties have a preference for individuals 62+, those with disabilities, families of 2 or more meeting income qualifications.
(Income Restricted/Below Market) Lower-Than-Market Rent
• You pay a reduced, fixed rent
• Lower than typical rents in the area
• For households who earn too much, but still need a lower-cost option
• For “low-income” households who need a more affordable option
(Market) Standard Market Rent
• You pay typical rents for the area
• Open to all households; income should be about 2.5× the rent”
• For “moderate income” households
STEP 3: Find Available Housing
Once you understand the income guidelines and housing programs, the next step is to explore available housing communities managed by Bath Housing.
Each property may have different eligibility guidelines, bedroom sizes, and waiting lists. Property pages include details about income limits, unit types, and whether housing vouchers are accepted.
Reminders
Like most housing providers, we review background information as we evaluate applications. As part of this process, we look at the following:
References
We will ask for references from the places you have lived during the past three years. These references help us understand your rental history. If you are unable to provide a landlord reference, we may accept other types of references depending on the situation.
Income Eligibility
A consumer credit report is obtained for every applicant. If there are outstanding balances owed to a previous landlord or housing provider, this could affect eligibility for housing.
Criminal History
All applicants are subject to a criminal background screening. Bath Housing applies established policies when reviewing certain offenses, including those involving drug-related activity, violence, or crimes against minors.
