Bath Housing announced today that it has received a $1,500 grant from the Davenport Trust Fund. The grant was awarded to provide bus passes to support the transportation needs of Bath Housing residents. Executive Director Debora Keller said, “Lack of transportation is one of the most often mentioned barriers for our residents’ independence. All have income at or below 80% of median income, making it difficult for them to afford the financial burden of owning a car or paying taxi fees. Many can no longer drive a car. This grant will go far in providing them with safe and reliable transportation throughout 2019.”
The City of Bath offers reduced rate bus tickets to Bath Housing at $1 per ticket. This grant of $1,500 will allows Bath Housing to provide free bus passes to residents throughout 2019. The passes have a positive impact on several levels:
- By allowing residents to maintain their independence, and do so safely
- By reducing social isolation through increased ability to participate in the local community
- By increasing the health of residents by providing transportation to medical appointments and the pharmacy.
Keller says, “We are grateful that the Board of the Davenport Trust understands the need in our community and has responded to it.”
