Bath, ME, October 23, 2015– Bath Housing is pleased to announce Amy Liechty, Program Coordinator, has been certified as an Aging-in-Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders.
Liechty is one of five Bath Housing staff members that received training from a certified Aging-in-Place instructor where concepts such as visitability, accessibility, and adaptability were discussed. The certification is a component of Bath Housing’s new focus on aging-in-place. In October 2015, Bath Housing began a pilot program, Community Aging in Place (CAP) to increase the housing stability of low-income, elderly homeowners in the greater Bath, Maine region by increasing safety, minimizing the maintenance burden, and lengthening tenure in their own homes.
Bath Housing works to enhance housing stability for seniors, those with disabilities, and families in the greater Bath area. Working with its affiliate, Bath Housing Authority, the organization addresses the shortage of safe affordable housing available to low income households. Bath Housing serves over 325 households in the area through affordable apartments and housing choice vouchers. Unfortunately, the need is real and many households in the greater Bath region have acute housing needs.
